Last month, it was
reported that Microsoft will no longer be selling Windows 10 S as a separate SKU, but will instead have it as a feature or mode of its more mainstream SKUs. Today, Microsoft’s Joe Belfiore confirmed the change by
tweeting the below.
“We use Win10S as an option for schools or businesses that want the ‘low-hassle’/ guaranteed performance version,” Belfiore tweeted. “Next year 10S will be a “mode” of existing versions, not a distinct version. SO … I think it’s totally fine/good that it’s not mentioned”
This “mode” will allow all the Windows 10 users to enjoy the speed, security and simplicity of Windows 10 S. Whenever needed, they can turn off the “mode” to have the full Windows 10 PC without any restrictions.
Of course, Windows 10 In S Mode didn’t come entirely out of the blue. Windows Insiders earlier this year reported that their Windows 10 S PCs had switched to Windows 10 Pro following an update to one of Microsoft’s Insider builds. This was confirmed to be deliberate by Redmond in recent builds. “Insiders running Windows 10 S may have noticed that after upgrading to the latest builds, their PC appears to be running ‘Windows 10 Pro In S Mode’.” Microsoft’s
