Microsoft Teams, the communication and collaboration platform is getting a free version to compete against Slack. With Teams, which appears to be a more compelling alternative to Slack. Microsoft Teams free version is limited to up to 300 users and it's a very useful solution for small to medium-sized businesses and project teams. Microsoft says that the users can upgrade to premium version whenever they want.

"Teams in Microsoft 365 includes everything in the free version plus additional storage, enterprise security, and compliance, and it can be used for your whole organization, regardless of size," says Ron Markezich, Corporate Vice President for Microsoft.

Microsoft says that more than 200,000 businesses are now using the Teams app in 181 markets and it would soon replace Skype for Business as the chat-based collaboration hub for Office 365.

You can store unlimited chat messages in Teams free version and just like the premium version, it also comes with built-in audio and video calling for individuals, groups, and small businesses.

You can find the full list of features below:

• 10 GB of team file storage plus an additional 2 GB per person for personal storage.

• Integrated, real-time content creation with Office Online apps, including built-in Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and OneNote.

• Unlimited app integrations with 140+ business apps to choose from—including Adobe, Evernote, and Trello.

• Ability to communicate and collaborate with anyone inside or outside your organization, backed by Microsoft’s secure, global infrastructure.

You can try out the free version of Teams at Office.com/TeamsFree.
