As reported earlier, a number of updates released by Microsoft on Patch Tuesday have been causing trouble to users that have deployed them. One in particular is update KB2859537 on Windows 7.

According to user reports on the official Microsoft Support forums, this curious little patch has been leading to unexpected BSODs (Blue Screen of Death) on a number of Windows 7 machines. Additionally, it is also causing problems on some newer games like RIFT and Defiance.

RIFT players have reportedly received a new patch today, and gamers are recommended to install it if the game either crashes on startup on Windows Vista or Windows 7.

Still, users are expressing frustration at Microsoft’s decision to keep delivering this patch.

And even though many reports confirm the issue, a company technician has explained that all BSODs are caused by an incompatibility between the update and the hardware and some computers.

Microsoft is also said to be planning a quick fix tool — details on which are incoming.

If you are have trouble after installing this particular patch and do not want to wait for an official fix, then the next best option is to uninstall the patch and hide it from Windows Update.

As for the update itself, Microsoft has acknowledged the problem saying that it is looking into the matter right away, meaning an official patch should be released soon.
