Do Not Install Windows 10 Creators Update
On Intel Clover Trail Chips

The Windows 10 Creators Update may support a million and one processors, but the Intel Clover Trail chips are not one of them. These Atom CPUs are not compatible with the CU, just yet.

Microsoft has basically rolled out the Creators Update via the Update Assistant, the official ISO's, and the Media Creation Tool, but the firm recommends those running Clover Trail processors to delay the upgrade.

Or, in other words, postpone the installation until support is provided.

The software giant warns that while users may be able to install the Creators Update, and get it up and running on such a device, the experience they get will be substantially impacted, and elements like icons and text may not appear at all.

On top of that, some parts of the UI may actually be displayed as solid color blocks, if you manage to deploy the Creators Update on a device that houses the Clover Trail processor.

This is what the company says on this:

Quote
“Microsoft is working with our partners to provide compatible drivers for these processors. Until then, Windows Update will prevent devices containing one of the processors listed above from installing the Creators Update.

If your PC contains one of these processors, Microsoft recommends that you do not install the Creators Update from the software download site. Please wait and allow Windows Update to install the Creators Update after compatible drivers are released and installed. If you have already installed Creators Update from the software download site and are experiencing these problems, you can use Windows 10’s recovery options to go back to an earlier build.”

There are four Clover Trail processors, by the way, that are not compatible right now, and these are the Atom Z2760, Z2520, Z2560, and Z258.

Long story short, the safest way to approach this is to wait a while until the Creators Update shows up on the Windows Update because that would mean that Microsoft has worked out the compatibility with these chips.

Of course, there are no specifics when that will happen, and when the latest version of Windows 10 starts playing nicely with these new Intel chips.

But then again, Atom users are known for their patience, so to speak, as this low-end processor line from Intel rarely lives life in the fast lane when it comes to processing and graphics power. Hopefully, these users do not have too long a wait.
