Many ransomware attacks target emails because they are an excellent opportunity for hackers to use in a short amount of time. RansomSaver is an add-on for Microsoft’s Outlook messaging program. It detects and removes emails that include ransomware.

RansomSaver essential features

RansomSaver is an add-on for Microsoft Outlook that is compatible with all 32-bit and 64-bit versions of Microsoft Outlook from Outlook 2007 to the newest versions. It runs on all versions of Windows released after Windows XP. Speaking of Windows XP, if you’re still running this OS, don’t forget to install a reliable antivirus tool.

RansomSaver integrates into Outlook automatically after installation. It features lots of options, but the essential function is scanning for ransomware.

RansomSaver checks the emails that you choose to select for ransomware attachments, and it can delete the whole message or just the infected attachment. The add-in then will move the emails to a dedicated folder called RansomSaver.

RansomSaver features

The options that are supported by the program are very simple, and they include the following:

■ You may enable or disable the removing of attachments/emails

■ You may disable the functionality until your next Outlook start

■ You may disable the scanning of the deleted items folder in Outlook

These options can be found in the add-in’s toolbar. There you will also see options to scan the existing folders for ransomware and a link that will lead you to the incident log as well.

All in all, RansomSaver targets two goals: detecting potential threats when you’re opening your emails and scanning all existing ones for possible issues. It’s likely that more experienced user won’t find this tool extremely useful for their own systems, but the program will definitely turn out to be great for protecting more inexperienced users and preventing them from executing malicious files attached to their emails.
