Microsoft is releasing new firmware updates for both the Surface Pro 3 and Surface Pro 4 today, some of its oldest supported devices in the lineup. Indeed, the Pro 3 came out almost four and a half years ago, so it's certainly notable that it's still receiving updates.
Here's what's new for the Surface Pro 3 (http://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/4023484/surface-surface-pro-3-update-history):

According to Microsoft's value indicator chart, these updates improve security with no effect on other categories like reliability, battery life, connectivity, compatibility, and performance.
The Surface Pro 4 (http://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/4023489/surface-surface-pro-4-update-history) got a few more updates than that, also improving security and battery stability.

Microsoft did not provide a value indicator chart for the Surface Pro 4 updates, but it should be about the same as the one for the Surface Pro 3.
