Microsoft’s upcoming video game streaming service Project xCloud will start public testing this year.

Announced in October, Xbox’s upcoming xCloud service is an upcoming initiative that will allow you to stream Xbox games to a bevy of devices. However, with such an intensive service aiming for smartphones, tablets and the like, public tested is more than needed.

“We’re developing Project xCloud not as a replacement for game consoles, but as a way to provide the same choice and versatility that music and video enjoy today,” Microsoft said in an announcement article. “We also believe in empowering gamers to decide when and how to play.”

While a solid date wasn’t announced, Microsoft announced during today’s Inside Xbox that xCloud will start public testing later this year. As of now, there are still very little details surrounding the service.

Running off base Xbox One hardware, Project xCloud sounds like a fantastic program for portable play. Despite some input lag and visual degradation, it should be an amazing experience to play console quality games on the go.

With rumors regarding Nintendo Switch partnership and the inclusion of AI in this service, xCloud is sounding like an interesting new experience for gaming.
