Title: Xiaomi patents phone with 3 screens, 3 cameras
Post by: javajolt on August 15, 2019, 01:34:50 PM
Xiaomi announced their upcoming folding phone earlier this year, which includes a device with two folding lines so the left and right screen can be folded.

In March this year, the company filed a design patent with EUIPO, which includes seven sketches.  The patent was just published on 5th August 2019.

LetsGoDigital has constructed a few 3D renders to visualize better the patent drawings.

Here you can see quite a thick device with minimal bezels, which houses 3 vertically positioned cameras on the back.

The triple camera consists of a second camera with an ultra-wide-angle lens, and a third with a telephoto lens with 2x zoom.

A setback to the design is that you can’t take pictures while the phone is folded

There’s no selfie camera, so it can be assumed that one will be integrated behind the screen once the under-screen camera technology is fully developed.

The back of the phone features a stylish curved design:

A USB-C type connection has been included at the bottom, but the 3.5mm connection was left out.  There are no buttons visible as well.

A fingerprint scanner is also likely to be integrated under the screen.

When not in use, the hinge could potentially let you fold the phone to create a cover.

The device may support Xiaomi’s recently demonstrated 100 Watt fast charging, which charges a 4000 mAh battery in just 17 minutes.

The smartphone is also likely to include 5G support.

The price hasn’t yet been confirmed but is expected to be anywhere between £1500-£2300.

While 2019 was the aborted launch of the next generation of smartphones, it seems pretty clear that in 2020 a lot more designs and variety will be hitting the market.
