Microsoft has revealed that Windows Embedded 8 Industry will make its debut during the Retail Tech Japan trade show starting Match 5th to March 7th. Windows Embedded 8 Industry is set to be the sequel to Windows Embedded POS Ready 7 and be a retail platform solution based on Windows 8.

Retail Tech Japan is an event held on March 5th to March 7th in Japan and features over 670 booths in an approximate 161,000 square-foot venue and is expecting over 150,000 visitors this year. This event specializes in retail information system and showcases the bleeding-edge in retail information technology. While Windows Embedded 8 Industry will make its debut during the show, it wont hit general availability soon after its debut, but Microsoft did not provide an exact date. During the event, Microsoft will demonstrate Windows Embedded 8 Industry, showcasing line-of-business applications that utilize multi-touch, Internet Explorer 10, enhanced power management, connectivity, and lockdown capabilities. As of right now, the Community Tech Preview of Windows Embedded 8 Industry is available (see the download link below).

"Today, thanks to the systems diversity and built-in intelligence, a supermarket will run digital signage that is directly connected to their cash registers and back-end servers. Not only will the signs react to the availability of the product, they will also adapt to make sure the timing of sales is optimum, and that customers have a great, seamless experience. For retail, we are talking about a multitude of connected devices, from a small mobile- payment terminal to a giant digital signage screen, in all sorts of forms and shapes," Microsoft stated. Sounds like our in-store shopping experiences are getting better!
