It had to happen. And it did. Microsoft have just announced that users have one more month to install Windows 8.1 Update on their computers, and the deadline has been officially extended.

That means, the date goes from May 13 to June 10.

The software titan had made installation of Windows 8.1 Update mandatory for all Windows 8.1 users, with the reasoning that all future patches and fixes were to be built on this new version of the modern operating system.

In other words, users had to install windows 8.1 Update before the Patch Tuesday updates for this month started flying off servers. However, several users had reported installation errors when trying to install Windows 8.1 Update — automatically and manually.

So in a new blog post, the company has confirmed that this is the reason why the deadline is now extended to June 10, the next Patch Tuesday:

Quote
“While we believe the majority of people have received the update, we recognize that not all have. Having our customers running their devices with the latest updates is super important to us. And we’re committed to helping ensure their safety.

As a result, we’ve decided to extend the requirement for our consumer customers to update their devices to the Windows 8.1 Update in order to receive security updates another 30 days to June 10.”
Microsoft already released a patch last week to take care of some of the installation errors.

Business users, obviously, already received a reprieve from installation, as companies and enterprises have a number of considerations to make when it comes to compatibility.
