Cortana Office Integration Moving Full Steam Ahead
« on: February 07, 2015, 03:45:07 AM »
When a digital assistant is designed as a platform, and not just as a service, then it comes as no surprise that Microsoft plans to integrate Cortana into a number of their products.

And as reported here, Microsoft has prepared an app called “Work Assistant” that is available here on the Windows Phone Store, complete with the Office logo as its icon. An internal beta prototype right now, this application has hints of Cortana integration.

This new app can manage user appointments and contacts, as well as the microphone.

Mary Jo Foley has chimed in on this, saying that Bill Gates is directly involved in the creation of this application, which isn’t all that surprising as the man himself said that he was working on a personal agent project at Redmond.

Gates described it as software that would help people organize and better manage their information, while allowing them to go back and find things they need.

Yup, sounds like exactly something that Cortana would do.

But that’s not all the talent that is on board. Julie Larson-Green, the chief experience officer of the applications and services team at Microsoft is actually leading the development.

As The Verge explains, the software titan eventually plans to integrate Cortana directly into Office on both the desktop as well as mobile devices. That report is low on details on how this eventual integration may look like.

However, judging by how fast things are moving here, Microsoft might soon be ready to provide more information on this rather interesting proposition.
