Patch Tuesday Could Be History With Windows 10
« on: May 07, 2015, 01:57:17 AM »
I guess when you bill an operating system like Windows 10 a game changer, than revolutionary changes like this are plain expected. And Microsoft has promised just this.

At the recently concluded BUILD 2015 developer conference, the software titan pledged to improve how updates are released for it software — one idea is to release these patches and improvements for the new OS as soon as they are available for deployment.

That is to say, users will not have to wait months to get these updates for their computers.

Microsoft would ship them when development and testing is complete, thereby doing away with the concept of Patch Tuesday, or Update Tuesday as it is now called.

In fact, the software titan reiterated these plans during the various keynotes at Ignite 2015 too.

One big question that remains unanswered is whether security updates are part of this new approach, as Microsoft has been criticized for releasing security fixes too slowly — sometimes months and even years after particular vulnerabilities are found.

And then again, the company would have to overhaul its testing process to ensure it minimizes the shipment of faulty updates.

Release updates on a designated Tuesday every month at least allows the testers to thoroughly put the patches through their paces, but releasing these fixes round the month would require more rigorous quality assurance to iron out any bugs and performance issues.

Then again, no one ever said designing a game changer was an easy affair.
