Microsoft Sets One Year Sales Deadline For New Windows 7 PCs
« on: November 03, 2015, 08:17:54 PM »
Want to buy a new Windows 7 PC? Better get busy shopping then, as you have 363 odd days to buy one. Microsoft has set the deadline for OEMs for the sales of computers running this version of Windows.

The most popular version of Windows, that is.

Earlier, Redmond had promised that it would provide a one year notice to PC makers on the Windows 7 end of life, and just now the company has quietly updated the Windows Lifecycle Fact Sheet page, confirming October 31, 2016 as the new date.

The last date on when manufacturers can sell PCs with Windows 7 preinstalled.

To be fair, the software titan did provide a lot of leeway for hardware vendors here.

The normal policy for Microsoft is to set the end of sales date for a particular version of Windows two years after the launch of the version of the OS that succeeds it — this provides OEMs with more than enough time to move the inventory and sell the remaining units.

This time around, though, the company decided to provide a little reprieve to PC makers due to the less than stellar consumer response of Windows 8.

In turn, giving them a whole two years after the launch of that modern version of Windows.

The original cutoff date for the sale of Windows 7 PCs would have been October 2014, and it is now October 2016. Basically twelve months from now, give or take a couple of days.

Interestingly, the end of sales date for Windows 8 arrives even sooner.

On June 30, 2016.
