Microsoft and Volvo Use HoloLens, Work on Driverless Cars
« on: November 22, 2015, 02:28:28 PM »
HoloLens is looking for uses in the real world, outside the home, office or lab. So, why not cars?

With it will come sales for Microsoft’s hardware and promotion for Windows 10, Azure and other Microsoft back end services.

Volvo is the latest to step on board with HoloLens, with concepts for designing, making and selling cars to the public.

Wouldn’t it be easier to go into a showroom and build all the custom features of your car with a neat 3D head display to show everything in working order?

This comes as we were waiting for some big news when it comes to Microsoft and car firms.

That’s just one part of the plan, with Microsoft and the Swedish company also looking to enter the autonomous car project.

Riding With Cortana in Cars

That’s where Windows 10 IoT and Windows in-car solutions will come in useful to help route the car, and provide entertainment for the passengers.

With Apple and Google already making waves in the automotive space, the Microsoft and Volvo deal gives them some headlines, but they will have to work hard to catch up.

No doubt Volvo are already well advanced in self-driving cars in their labs, adding Cortana and other Windows 10 service would give them access to a user interface and glossy features.

There’s a little more on the MS blog, but this is really a step into the future for both companies. Keep an eye on the roads!
