Microsoft is all set to end the Windows 10 free upgrade offer for Windows 7 and 8.1 users on July 29, but Windows 10 Mobile will still be available for Windows Phone users after this date.

The company has confirmed that there will be no change in the upgrade offer for phone users

And they can upgrade to Windows 10 Mobile for free after July 29.

This question has been on user’s mind ever since Microsoft formally announced back in May that the free upgrade promotion for Windows 10 will expire on July 29, exactly one year after launch as promised.

Whether this would also apply to devices that are eligible for Windows 10 Mobile is something that the software titan never really confirmed.

Up until now.

Dona Sarkar took to Twitter today to confirm that Windows Phone 8.1 users will indeed still have the option of upgrading to the latest version of the mobile OS after the deadline expires for PC users:

Looks like the new bits will be there all the time for eligible handsets.

Good to know!

What is also important to know is that not all Windows Phone devices are eligible for the upgrade to Windows 10 Mobile, and that is primarily because their hardware specifications do not meet the requirements of the new mobile OS.

Redmond has an option for them that requires users to upgrade at your own risk, and this involves signing up for the Release Preview ring of the Insider Program.

It is currently unknown if build 10586 will continue to be available for those devices after Microsoft officially rolls out the Anniversary Update for the mobile operating system in the coming weeks, but chances are that it will.
