Kodi Media Center now available as a Windows Store app (UWP)
« on: September 21, 2016, 06:07:04 AM »
The popular cross-platform media center app Kodi is now available from the Windows Store. That means you can download the app from the store, get automatic updates from the store, and don’t ever have to visit the Kodi website again (unless you want to).

According to the Kodi blog, there are also benefits for developers, including some crash data logs.

While the Kodi team worked with Microsoft’s Desktop Bridge software to convert an existing Windows program into a Universal Windows App, the software still relies on some legacy code… which means that it can run on Windows 10 for desktops, laptops, or tablets. But the Windows Store version of Kodi is not available for other platforms like phones, Xbox game consoles, or HoloLens.

The latest version of Kodi available from the Windows Store is version 17 beta 2, and the Kodi team will keep making beta versions available until the final version of Kodi 17 is released. After that, the Windows Store will only distribute stable versions of the program.

At that point, if you want to try nightly or beta builds, you’ll want to download them from the Kodi website, where you’ll also still find download links for Kodi for Max, Linux, Android, and other platforms.
