Paint App For Windows 10 Gets New UI, 3D Support
« on: October 09, 2016, 03:19:14 AM »

It has been more than half a year since we have heard anything solid about the Paints app that Microsoft is developing for Windows 10, but we now have some new details.

We actually got some screens and early information in May.

And now there are videos floating around that detail this overhauled application that will most likely be a Store app. Redmond seems to be going for a redesigned user interface for this modern version of the popular program — very much similar to other UWP apps like Mail and Calendar.

But that’s not all.

In addition to the UI changes, the refurbished image editor is also getting a useful new major improvement in the form of 3D support.

Meaning, alongside the other, normal features that are part of the normal Paint application, users will have the ability to add 3D objects. This makes for a rather interesting synergy with Microsoft’s augmented reality efforts via HoloLens.

It appears that users will be able to add various 3D objects and shapes onto the canvas, and then use a number of different tools and brushes to edit their artwork.

Naturally, annotations are also going to be supported, as Redmond is big on pen input these days.

And while, it only makes sense that the app is getting these changes with HoloLens in focus, but Microsoft may also be positioning the new Paint app as a solution for the Surface AIO that is expected to be announced later this month, aimed at artists and professionals.
