New Windows 7 Patch Is Not Related To Windows 10 Upgrades
« on: October 06, 2016, 06:18:20 PM »
Microsoft assures! The software titan pulled off a quick one a couple of days back when it released a new Windows 7 patch that left most people rather surprised.

It was, after all, one of the updates that was supposed to be a prerequisite for the Get Windows 10 app.

The nagging little tool that was created to ensure a smooth transition to the new OS.

However, there is no shortage of users that are either not ready to upgrade to Windows 10, or do not plan on doing so altogether. And they figured that this was some new tactic by Redmond to push them towards the latest version of Windows.

However, that is not the case, the company has confirmed.

Microsoft bills this latest update that goes by KB2952664 as a regular patch that improves Windows Update, and it in no way brings the Get Windows 10 app back, as feared.

In fact, as revealed, this is a patch that brings changes to the Windows Upgrade Analytics Service that is a telemetry service that is used to improve the upgrades to newer versions of the operating system:

Quote
“The Windows Upgrade Analytics Service uses telemetry data to provide powerful upgrade readiness insights and recommendations about the computers, applications and drivers in your organization. This new service guides you through upgrade projects using a workflow based on Microsoft recommended practices. Up-to-date inventory data allows you to balance cost and risk in your upgrade projects.”
Anyway, as things stand, Microsoft guarantees that this update will not force the Windows 10 installation on computers. And besides, there is a slim chance of that happening in the first place, considering the free upgrade campaign is already over.

This is a mandatory update for the use of the Windows Upgrade Analytics Service, though.
