Intel has just launched a new 15 watt, dual-core Core i3 processor… but it’s not a new Kaby Lake chip. Instead, the new Core i3-6006U seems to be a slightly less powerful version of the Core i3-6100U Skylake processor the company launched more than a year ago.
Go figure.

But the new chip has a base clock speed of 2 GHz rather than 2.3 GHz, and it has a top graphics speed of 900 MHz instead of 1 GHz.
With the same recommended price of $281 for either chip, it’s not entirely clear to me why Intel felt the need to launch a new model, but I suppose it’s possible that the difference could result in slightly longer battery life.
Like last year’s chip, the new Core i3-6006U processor supports DDR3L-1600, LPDDR3-1866, or DDR4-2133 memory and also supports 4K output via HDMI or DisplayPort or 1080p wireless output using Intel WiDi technology.
