Leaks of the universal File Explorer have surfaced before, but thanks to a bug in the latest Insider Preview Build, 14965, it is now possible to launch hidden apps like the mysterious Holograms app and the File Explorer.

There is a catch, however. To do this, you need a Surface Pro 3 or later, with a pen that supports launching of apps with its tip. By going to the Settings > Devices > Pen & Windows Ink and scrolling down to the Pen Shortcut settings, you can launch any universal app installed on the device, even those you aren’t supposed to.

This allowed us to start apps like Holograms and discover apps like HoloShell, which probably are all part of the unification of Windows 10 and Windows 10 Holographic that has been rumored.

Meanwhile these apps aren’t really useful as they either crash on launch or get stuck at the splash screen. The universal version of the File Explorer is easily ignored while scrolling through the list, as most of us would think that it’s the regular File Explorer. But what would it do under the category “Universal Apps”?

The current state of the app is pretty rough, but already shows differences between the phone version and the desktop one. This indicates that the application is probably under development already and that we might see a preview soon.
