Huawei To Launch 2 New Surface Competitors In 2017
« on: December 28, 2016, 10:53:00 PM »

The attack of the clones continues! Huawei, of all companies, seems to have raked up some solid success with its Surface like devices, and is now looking to up the ante next year.

The Chinese mobile giant is said to be preparing two new Surface competitors for launch in 2017.

The second quarter of 2017, that be.

We already knew that Huawei was planning the next phase of its PC assault next year, and the company has brought its MateBook to several markets this year, including the United States. The device was actually unveiled at the prestigious MWC 2016 event.

And there is every chance that we will get to see these new unveils at Mobile World Congress this year.

Prior to that, though, there is an indication that Huawei has chosen its manufacturers for these new devices. Word is that two ODMs have been tapped to produce these next generation of the MateBook lineup — Pegatron and Quanta Computer.

Word is that these are going to be larger than the 12.9-inch MateBook, thereby allowing Huawei to add in more battery life and a larger screen real estate for these products.

On top of that, the company also plans to incorporate several connectivity ports, so a larger size helps.

Both upcoming models are expected to feature the latest Intel Kaby Lake processors that will deliver increased CPU prowess and improved battery life. The base mode of the MateBook came in with a price tag of $699, but these new launches could be a priced a tad higher.

In any case, things are lining up for the successors to the MateBook, which was the company’s first attempt at a 2-in-1, a more affordable alternative to the Surface Pro 4.

It is expected that these next generation models will sell more than 2 million units, so Huawei quite definitely has a solid success on its hand.

Roll on 2017!
