A few days ago, Microsoft teased an update to their Xbox One video game console that would, among other things, feature a redesigned function for the main Xbox button on the Xbox One controller.

“Through one press of the Xbox button on your controller, you’ll be able to pull up the newly enhanced Guide as an overlay on the left side of your screen no matter what you’re doing,” Xbox’s Mike Ybarra said in a blog post. “In addition, we’re rebuilding the most popular multitasking experiences for speed and ease of access. For example, you’ll be able to start recording your GameDVR clips, adjust your recording length, and access your captures directly in the Guide.”

While this update hasn’t rolled out yet, Ybarra did show off the new Xbox One dashboard briefly in a game streaming session on his Beam account just a few hours ago and viewers managed to take a quick screenshot of it.

As can be seen from the image, the new Guide shown in the Beam stream has been redesigned quite a bit and now features a bright white Xbox symbol at its center. It also offers a lot more options than previously such as options for switching to recently played video games and several new recording shortcuts.

While offering more functionality, several Xbox One owners have expressed concern about added difficulty in returning to the main Xbox One home dashboard after this update rolls out. Ybarra replied on Twitter that the method they currently have implemented is a combination of pressing the Xbox and A button however the Xbox team is also looking at an additional one-button solution.
