Recently, Microsoft made a new “contribution” to its Windows Insider platform in the form of a new build that includes new goodies for Insiders to test. Since the Creators Update is closing in on its release date, many believed that it would be a while until brand new features would make an appearance. That seems to not be the case as Microsoft introduced the first iteration of its Windows Mixed Reality service with this latest update. Windows Mixed Reality is basically Windows Holographic with a new name set to give users a broader sense of what the app is about.

Windows Mixed Reality had a minimal introduction

The introduction of this interactive Windows Mixed Reality experience on the Insiders build comes not long after the announcement that Windows Holographic would be assuming this new identity. Allowing users to try out the service will accomplish two important things: first, it will let people know if their current configuration is strong enough to support the technology. Second, it will let them get a first taste of what’s to come as the currently available experience is just a demo.

Getting this new service is easy for all users

Those interested in trying out Microsoft’s new VR features need to activate Developer Mode on their computers and download the latest Insiders build. To activate Developer Mode, users have to navigate to the Update & Security section of their computer’s Settings and enable the Developer Mode option under For Developers. The latest Insiders build is 15048.

Now it’s time to fire it up

After this, firing up the Mixed Reality app will bring out a welcoming screen followed by explanations as to how the simulation will go down. Users will easily identify how to start it all with the Get Started button. Most regular users will have access to the Mixed Reality simulation but those that also have a Windows Mixed Reality dev kit can use it in conjunction

This introduction into the potentially vast world of Windows Mixed Reality will definitely be intriguing to anyone that opts to try it. By allowing users to peer into the future through this small token of what’s to come, the Windows developer is ensuring that people will be eager for the release of the next major update after the long awaited Creators Update.
