Microsoft May Be Launching A $1,000 Windows 10 Laptop
« on: March 17, 2017, 08:17:58 PM »
How’s that for a surprise! It appears that the Surface Book 2 may also end up with a traditional laptop approach, as rumor is that Microsoft is actually planning a Windows 10 laptop.

One that may come in at a $1,000 price point.

The second-generation Surface Book lineup is expected to be launched sometime this year, and its arrival is actually closer than we expect. Because according to this report, Microsoft has already started production of the Surface Book 2.

And It has made some changes that no one saw coming.

First off, is the transition away from the 2-in-1 approach — a category that Redmond pioneered with the Surface RT back in 2012. If this report holds true, the Surface Book 2 could give up on the detachable keyboard, and align itself to more of a traditional laptop concept.

The Surface Book has been a very expensive product, and Microsoft is said to be trying to make it a little bit more affordable.

Hence, giving up on some features, like the controversial hinge that has been received with mixed reactions, could drive the price down. On top of that, there is also the fact that the Surface Book eats into the sales of the Surface Pro 4.

As a result, the Surface Book 2 could cost $1,000, down from the $1,499 base price tag.

Microsoft is likely to stick with the 13.5-inch display and magnesium aluminum alloy chassis, but other hardware upgrades are very likely like more RAM and storage, as well as Kaby Lake processors.

The report speculates that the Surface Book 2 could launch in late March or April, but chances are that the software titan might sync the release of the new hardware with the introduction of the Windows 10 Creators Update that is on track for arrival on April 11.
