Windows PCs come with many pre-installed applications, and these applications keep running in the background until you disable them. No matter you are using those applications or not. OneDrive app is one of them, however, it is enabled only when you are logged in with your Microsoft Account.
Remember that disabling OneDrive and uninstalling OneDrive completely are two different things. However, it is one and same thing because the disabled applications are no longer in function until you re-enable them. You can remove or uninstall OneDrive from Windows 10 completely.
Disabling OneDrive will remove it from your File Explorer too and you can re-enable whenever you want. Before the Windows 10 Creators Update disabling OneDrive was a bit tricky but Windows 10 v1703 now allows you to easily uninstall Microsoft OneDrive app via the Settings panel. Uninstall OneDrive in Windows 10
and open the Settings
Panel-> go to App & Features
and look for Microsoft OneDrive
Double click on the app and click on the tab Uninstall
If you haven’t yet updated your Windows PC with the Windows 10 Creators Update, you can disable the OneDrive app in a different way via Run Command. Here is how you can uninstall OneDrive in Windows 10 or even on your Windows 8 PC.
• Open Run dialog by pressing Win+R.
• Type cmd
to open the command prompt.
• Type TASKKILL /f /im OneDrive.exe
to kill the running OneDrive process.
If you want to uninstall OneDrive completely from your Windows 10/8 PC type the following commands in a CMD prompt:
♦ type: %systemroot%\System32\OneDriveSetup.exe /uninstall – for a 32-bit system,
♦ type: %systemroot%\SysWOW64\OneDriveSetup.exe /uninstall – for a 64 bit system.
These commands will remove OneDrive completely from your PC but some files and folders related to the app may still reside somewhere in your PC. Files and folders present in your OneDrive will remain intact even after you remove the app. To remove the residual files and folders of the app, search for OneDrive in ProgramData
folders and delete them manually.
