At Microsoft’s Build conference currently taking place in Seattle, it was confirmed that the Xbox Live Creators Program will give developers the ability to enable keyboard support on Xbox One. The company also confirmed that mouse support would come at a later date.
Andrew Parsons, Senior Program Manager for Game Developers at Microsoft, spoke at the conference during a session titled State of Play: Modern Game Development. Parsons said that developers utilizing the Xbox Live Creators Program will have the ability to enable all Windows features on Xbox One, including keyboard support. Parsons added that most mice won’t be compatible initially, but Microsoft hopes to add support for all mice down the line at some point in the future. Keyboard support is definitely their priority at the moment.
For those Xbox One owners who wanted an update on keyboard and mouse support, there you have it! Proper keyboard support is coming to the console soon. This should really help with some games like Halo Wars 2 and other strategy titles which require considerable variety. Instead of memorizing a dozen different combinations on the controller, gamers can just press a button or two. Hopefully, the company will provide further updates on this in the weeks to come.
