A new Windows 10 Redstone 3 screenshot is doing the rounds right now, revealing what is said to be the Windows Store version of the Microsoft Office suite. Yes, you read that right.

Office is likely to be brought to the Store in Redstone 3.

Microsoft is trying to pioneer the porting of Win32 software to the Windows Store via the rather impressive set of tools offered by Project Centennial, and what better way to showcase this toolset than by running the Office suite of productivity applications through it.

Sure, this is not the first time we have heard about Office as UWP applications, but the screenshots that have been posted here from the first Redstone 3 build indicate that work on the project is advancing at a steady clip.

Observe:

What you are seeing here comes from the Cloud SKU of Windows 10 Redstone 3, which shows Microsoft Office Store apps pinned to the Start Menu. Obviously, the links don’t work at this time, but that is something to be fixed in later builds.

This Cloud variant of the operating system is billed as the success to Windows RT, and is apparently a version of the OS that only works with Windows Store apps.

Meaning, no Win32 desktop software programs supported out of the box.

We are sure to hear more about Windows 10 Cloud, and the Windows Store version of Office in the coming weeks, particularly at the BUILD 2017 developer conference set to kick off in May.

If all goes according to plan, there is a good chance that the public launch of this version of Office takes place with the next release of the operating system in fall.
