Ubuntu is now on the Windows 10 app store
« on: July 10, 2017, 11:27:33 PM »

Following SUSE Linux, Ubuntu is making its way to the Windows Store today. Windows Insiders running Windows 10 Insider Preview build 16190 or newer can install Ubuntu from the Windows Store on their Windows 10 PC today. Once you download and launch Ubuntu from the Windows Store, it will start installing Ubuntu on your PC.

Installing Ubuntu will allow you to use the Ubuntu Terminal and the other utilities that are packed in the system, including things like Bash, Git, and all the other cool stuff. It is important to note that to be able to install Ubuntu, you will also need to have the Windows Subsystem for Linux enabled on your PC first.

Here are some of the benefits of downloading Ubuntu from the Windows Store:

♦ Faster & more reliable downloads: The Windows Store employs a sophisticated block-based download mechanism that minimizes the size of apps being downloaded, resulting in faster and more reliable downloads

♦ Install distros side-by-side: WSL has been enhanced to support the installation of multiple distros alongside one another

♦ Run multiple distros simultaneously: Not only can you install distro’s side-by-side, but you can now run more than one distro simultaneously

You can get Ubuntu 16.04 LTS from the Windows Store here.
