Twitter’s been undergoing a bit of a revamp in the past few days. The firm has introduced 280 characters, paused verification after noting that some users abused the system, updated their rules to target abuse and harassment and now, the firm is lifting the character limit on display names to 50.
This means that users with double-barrelled names can now have their full name on their Twitter account without having to truncate it somewhat, a welcome change.
Twitter’s now
revised FAQ says:
Your display name is a personal identifier (sometimes a business name or real name) displayed in your profile page and used to identify you to friends, especially if your username is something other than your name or business name. Change your name by following instructions here.
With 280 character tweets, and 50 character display names, Twitter’s allowing users to express themselves more, and for an important social media platform as it is (in some circles), that’s a good thing.
