Windows 10 on ARM PCs will ship with Windows 10S
« on: December 05, 2017, 09:36:00 PM »
Microsoft’s Windows 10 on ARM PC platform is set to launch very soon, with the main promise being able to run any Windows software despite running on a non-x86 processor.

It is therefore somewhat surprising that both HP and Asus’s devices will ship running Windows 10S.

In some ways, this would help Microsoft shape the experience for users by preventing users from installing software that has not been optimised for the platform, but it may also lead to very frustrated buyers and a higher rate of return.

Fortunately, Microsoft will also be offering a free upgrade to Windows 10 Pro until the 30th September 2018, making Windows 10S more like training wheels than manacles.

If these laptops prove popular the most important software used by users will hopefully migrate to the store as Centennial apps, hopefully making the issues present in the beginning of 2018 moot by the end of 2018.
