Qualcomm announced today at MWC 2018 a new chipset series, the Qualcomm Snapdragon 700. Those follow the very powerful Snapdragon 6xx models, that are already present on tens of millions of devices. Let’s see what the new chips bring.

The idea is simple: Snapdragon 700 chips offer Snapdragon 800 features in a more affordable package. The idea is to bridge the gap between high end and midrange.

The Snapdragon 700 range is going to include the S800’s AI Engine and Spectra image processing. The extra AI features aid with mobile photography and possibly with other tasks, like automation, virtual assistant and so forth.

Qualcomm offers Bluetooth 5.0 support, Quick Charge 4.0+, new Kryo cores and Adreno graphics. A boost of up to 30% in power efficiency is expected to be achieved in comparison with the Snapdragon 660.

Samples will reach the device makers sometime around the end of the first half of 2018. Some say that we’ll see these CPUs on foldable devices, such as the Surface Phone or Samsung Galaxy X.

The new parts included here are Kryo 385 CPU, Adreno 600 GPU and Spectra 200 ISP. Hexagon Vector processor and the Adreno Visual Processing are also here. I think that Computex 2018 may bring us the first devices with these chipsets and then the big flow of units will come to IFA 2018.
