Xbox One S and Xbox One X will soon support AMD FreeSync
« on: March 14, 2018, 02:31:40 AM »
Update: Xbox’s Brad Rossetti has announced that FreeSync has been enabled for Alpha Insiders via a service switch.

Original: During the premiere episode of Inside Xbox today it was revealed that AMD FreeSync will be coming to Xbox One S and Xbox One X.

Quote
“Antal Tungler from AMD announced that Xbox One S and Xbox One X will support variable refresh rate on AMD Radeon FreeSync displays. Freesync technology helps get rid of tearing and stuttering while gaming, enabling the display and Xbox One to work together to create a smooth and seamless gaming experience. Freesync allows for a supported TV or monitor to synchronize its refresh rate with your console.”

As stated above, FreeSync technology helps reduce screen tearing by syncing the refresh rate of your gaming system and monitor through the use of dynamic refresh rates. Not all monitors utilize this feature, but it will be a major improvement for those who own ones that do.

In addition to this, Xbox One consoles will also support Auto Low Latency Mode later this year on certain TVs. This mode will recognize when a game being played and automatically switch your TV to low-latency mode.

All of the big announcements from the show have been compiled on Xbox Wire, though they mostly recapped the Spring update for Insiders and discussed Sea of Thieves with the team at Rare. And to tease next month’s Game Pass games, it was revealed that Cities: Skylines would be added to the program in April.

AMD FreeSync should be available for Xbox Insiders soon, possibly as early as next week.
