New data from Microsoft once again confirms that the Windows 10 adoption is improving every single month at the expense of Windows 7. Data offered by Microsoft indicates that the Windows 10 has now reached 48 percent market share and it’s likely that the operating system market share will continue to improve given that Windows 7 is projected to reach the end of support in January 2020.

While Windows 10 is growing, Windows 7 is collapsing, something the two analytics companies StatCounter and NetMarketShare are claiming for a couple of months. Windows 10 market share has improved gradually in the last 12 months and Windows 10 will secure at least 50 percent share before the summers.

It’s likely that the same pace will be maintained as Microsoft will soon begin rolling out Windows 10 Spring Creators Update. The number of users upgrading to Windows 10 is likely to increase when Microsoft launches the Spring Creators Update next month, which means a new and significant drop in the market share of Windows 7 is likely to be recorded.

Microsoft has recently managed to improve the market share of Windows 10 by one percent and the operating system is nearly running on half of the computers worldwide. On the other hand,  StatCounter figures indicate that Windows 10 is now the leading and most popular desktop operating system, while Windows 7 is the runner-up.

Microsoft’s aggressive push for Windows 10 has reduced the market share of Windows 7 and it would continue to decline as the latest operating is promoted as a long-term investment. Windows 7 dropped to just 38 percent in February 2018.

Microsoft’s Terry Myerson also confirmed that Windows 10 is growing and the operating system has close to 700 million active users. “We are now approaching 700 million active Windows 10 users, commercial usage is growing 84% year over year, Xbox One is running a Windows 10 core, Surface is leading PC innovation, HoloLens is bringing breakthroughs to computer vision, our universal Microsoft store enables Xbox GamePass, Azure reserved instances, and Office distribution and the OEM ecosystem is revitalized with profitable growth,” he said.
