While Microsoft is yet to announce the release date of Windows 10 Redstone 4 update, reports suggest that the company could launch the next major update in this week. The next version of Windows might be called Windows 10 April Update, and it certainly makes sense as this week aligns with the April target that the company had initially planned.
Microsoft compiled the Windows 10 version 1803 in March 2018 and the update will be released to the general public by end of this month if everything goes as per the plan. Microsoft is still expected to begin the rollout of Windows 10 April Update and ship the final build to the first wave, and a cumulative update on day one. While Windows 10 April Update codenamed Redstone 4 will be rolling out to the public by the end of this month, the majority of the users are expected to receive the update in the coming months as per Microsoft’s typical release schedule.
We’re now in the last week of April, and with the RTM build already available for all Windows Insiders, it certainly makes sense for us to highlight the top changes introduced in the latest version of Windows.
New features in Windows 10 April UpdateWindows 10 April Update is a big release with a lot of new features, and as well as improvements. Microsoft is bringing Windows Timeline, Fluent Design, improved privacy settings and more to Windows with this release.
TimelineMicrosoft initially planned to release Timeline with Windows 10 Fall Creators Update but due to some reasons, the feature wasn’t ready in time for the 2017 release. Timeline basically allows users to pick up from where they left off on a different Windows device, and you can resume any activity from an earlier snapshot.
Windows Timeline uses the power of the cloud to sync the activity across devices where Microsoft services are configured. For example, Microsoft Edge on Android supports Timeline, as a result, the browsing activity left off in Microsoft Edge for Android could be resumed on your PC.
It certainly makes switching from one PC to another or mobile to PC transition smooth as it shows up the documents, files and web pages that the users were browsing at a certain time in one place. The timeline snapshots are displayed as cards, and the interface is quite easy to operate.
Nearby ShareOne of the most interesting features added into Windows 10 operating system with April Update is Nearby Share. It is supposed to improve the sharing feature between the Windows 10 devices.
When both of the devices are running on latest version of Windows 10, the users can share and receive files over the Bluetooth connection only, as Wi-Fi support is not offered yet. You can share Microsoft Edge links to a different computer with the Nearby feature.
Fluent DesignMicrosoft announced Fluent Design at Build 2017 developer conference, but only certain parts, like the acrylic effect, made it to the operating system with the last update. Microsoft is bringing Fluent Design to other parts of the operating system. With April Update, Microsoft is adding the Reveal effects and acrylic in Start menu and other areas. The changes are mostly based on user feedback and this time it is easily noticeable across the platform.
Windows 10 April Update could be released as soon as this week, although the people familiar with the rollout plans believe that today (Tuesday) could be the day when the first systems might get the new update. It is worth noting that the update won’t be released on the weekend as Microsoft needs to gather enough data and address bugs with a hotfix. By the looks of things, Windows team would have to work during the weekend.
