Microsoft today announced the arrival of new Windows 10 Insider Preview Build 17661 Redstone 5 for both Fast And Skip Ahead Ring. The latest build contains some new features apart from many improvements for Insiders in Fast and Skip Ahead Ring. You can read more about what’s new in our dedicated article here.

Along with the new features Microsoft has also worked on pushing some much-needed fixes for Windows Insiders. These fixes have been possible after getting feedback from the Windows Insiders over a couple of weeks after the release of the previous build.

What’s Fixed:

Microsoft has made improvements for the Narrator with the use of Sets. The narrator now informs the users of the tabs by reading out the information. Microsoft has also adjusted the skin tones in the Emoji Panel with users now able to see a row of skin tone colors.

Microsoft fixed issues with the arrow and Page Up/ Down keys which didn’t work while using web pages in Microsoft Edge. This issue has now been fixed in the latest build. Nonvisibility of the mouse cursor while moving it over certain UI elements has now been fixed. This issue was reported since last two preview builds and has finally been fixed in the latest preview build.

Some user’s reported that the Game Bar was not appearing when pressing WIN+G, this issue has now been fixed by the company in the latest preview build. Microsoft has also updated the design of the handwriting panel which now shows the delete button on the top. A new button to switch languages has now been added which now appears under the “….” menu.

A new option has been added under the Pen & Windows Ink Settings which lets users to allow the pen to act as a mouse.

Known Issues:

• VPN for some users will not be working after upgrading to this build. As a workaround, you would need to delete the “%ProgramData%\Microsoft\Network\Connections\pbk* directories”. Check if the VPN profile you need shows up already and if not, reinstall the appropriate VPN client app you need.

• User will now find some apps missing when logging in to additional user accounts on the PC. As a temporary workaround users would need to run “Get-AppXPackage *WindowsStore* -AllUsers | Foreach {Add-AppxPackage -DisableDevelopmentMode -Register “$($_.InstallLocation)\AppXManifest.xml”}”.

• Movies & TV crashes when the user navigates to the “Personal Tab” and denies access to its videos library.

• Windows Mixed Reality headset setup will show a black screen after installing this build. You would need to disconnect and reconnect back to the PC to return to the proper screen.

• Some of the Win32 desktop apps will appear below the tab bar when maximized, this issue will be fixed in upcoming builds. As a workaround, you need to restore and re-maximize the window.

As always its advisable to go through the list of known issues before installing the Windows 10 preview builds. The latest Windows 10 preview build is available for download and you can get it by going to Settings>Update & Security>Windows Update>Check for Update.
