Windows 10 Redstone 5 update will be feature complete soon
« on: July 12, 2018, 02:37:26 PM »
Microsoft earlier today released Windows 10 Redstone 5 Build 17713 to the Windows Insiders in the Fast Ring for testing. Microsoft says that this build marks a step in the process that signals the point in the development cycle where the company’s focus will be on stabilization for Redstone 5.

Microsoft says that it has “forked” RS5 into its own branch called “RS5_RELEASE” just like the software maker did for Redstone 4 (April 2018 Update).

Microsoft is also resetting the Skip Ahead ring ahead of the release of Windows 10 Redstone 6 update. The company is making this change to the Windows Insider program as it moves towards the final development stages of the Redstone 5 update.

In a blog post today, Dona Sarkar, head of the Windows Insider program says that Microsoft will soon start focusing on stabilization for Redstone 5.

“We are getting close to the point in the development cycle where our focus will be on stabilization for RS5. As part of the stabilization process, we have “forked” RS5 into its own branch called “RS5_RELEASE” just like we did for RS4 and RS3 before that. Insiders will see this branch change with today’s build,” Dona Sarkar explains.

We are quickly approaching that point when Windows 10 Redstone 5 update would be feature complete. The upcoming Windows 10 Redstone 5 update will soon enter the stabilization phase of the development cycle but it does not necessarily mean that no new features will be added to the operating system.

It’s worth noting that Windows 10 Redstone 5 update is available only for the Windows Insiders and it’s projected to launch in the fall of this year for the general public, according to Microsoft’s typical release schedule. At this point, ironing out the bugs in Windows 10 Redstone 5 is the priority and the other major changes will be introduced with Redstone 6 update.
