Microsoft has finally addressed the rather controversial and the so-called critical bug in Windows 10 October 2018 Update that accidentally trashed the users content. Microsoft says that Windows 10 October 2018 Update with important fixes is now available to the Windows Insiders before rolling it out more broadly to consumers.

“We have fully investigated all reports of data loss, identified and fixed all known issues in the update, and conducted internal validation, writes John Cable / Director of Program Management,” Windows Servicing and Deliver.

“Today we take the next step towards the re-release of the Windows 10 October 2018 Update by providing the updated version to our Windows Insider community.  We will carefully study the results, feedback, and diagnostic data from our Insiders before taking additional steps towards re-releasing more broadly,” he adds.

What’s next?

The Windows 10 October 2018 Update (version 1809) rollout is still suspended and it will be re-released to the consumes after the company receives the positive feedback from Insiders. In other words, you will be able to obtain installation media or the version 1809 via Windows Update later this month.

As expected, the bug wasn’t widespread and it only impacted one one-hundredth of one per cent of version 1809 installs. Microsoft has apologized to the customers for the unfortunate error and the company is asking users to contact Microsoft Support in order to get assistance if they lost any content.

“To help us better detect issues like this, today we have enabled a new feature in the Windows Insider Feedback Hub. We have added an ability for users to also provide an indication of impact and severity when filing User Initiated Feedback,” Microsoft explains.
