Windows 10 cumulative updates could be a crazy roller coaster ride for some users. The Surface Book 2 owners reported that they are experiencing BSOD error after installing the optional Windows 10 November 2018 cumulative update.
Windows 10 version 1803 Build 17134.441 (KB4467682) is causing BSODs on a number of Surface Book 2 units and the only way to address this problem is uninstalling it completely.
Earlier this week, Microsoft officially acknowledged the problem and blocked the Surface Book 2 devices from receiving the update. However, today Microsoft revealed that they are pulling Windows 10’s late November update from everywhere.
“After installing this optional update some users have reported getting a blue or black screen with an error code, “System thread exception not handled.” As a precaution, we have removed this optional update from Windows Update and Microsoft Update Catalog to protect customers. Fixes and improvements will be available in the December 2018 security update release and will include a resolution for this issue,”
Microsoft explains in the updated support.
It’s worth noting that the update is optional and it was released to the April 2018 Update devices. User reports indicate that the BSOD is only experienced on this particular OS release.
At the time of writing this story, the optional Windows 10 November 2018 cumulative update is no longer available for download from Windows Update or Microsoft Update Catalog.
