Last month, Microsoft released Windows 10 KB4467682 (Build 17134.441) with tons of fixes and improvements. The update apparently improved the overall experience on majority of PCs, but for some users, the optional update is doing more harm than good.

Microsoft says that Windows 10 KB4467682 is an optional update but apparently many customers installed it and some started reporting unexpected issues.

The initial reports revealed that the update causes BSOD on flagship Surface Book 2 and as there were several such reports, Microsoft acknowledged the bug last week. The software giant recommended users experiencing the BSOD error to uninstall the cumulative update and wait for the December update.

Microsoft pulled the cumulative update completely and the company is no longer offering it to the devices. The update package has been pulled from both Windows Update and Microsoft Update Catalog.

Now it looks like there is yet another bug that breaks down the Start Menu layouts if it was customized. “After installing this update some users with custom Start menu layouts may see them displayed incorrectly,” Microsoft explains. It appears to be a minor glitch and it should not bother the users and businesses.

In the support document, Microsoft says that the fix will be bundled with another update which is supposed to go live by mid-December.

Microsoft is supposed to release new December cumulative updates for Windows 10 tomorrow as part of the monthly Patch Tuesday cycle and there is a chance that the fix could be shipped with tomorrow’s release. If not tomorrow, the problems will be addressed by end of December.

“Microsoft is working on a resolution and estimates a solution will be available mid-December 2018,” Microsoft noted in support page.

It’s important to understand that KB4467682 is an optional update and uninstalling it won’t remove the changes made by the previous cumulative updates. The software maker has pulled the cumulative update completely and the users can no longer download it from Windows Update.

If you’ve already updated your system but you’re not experiencing any issues then there is no need to bother about the reports.
