Red Hat Enterprise Linux Comes to Windows 10.
« on: December 18, 2018, 04:52:05 PM »
Open-source startup Whitewater Foundry has unveiled WLinux Enterprise. WLinux Enterprise is the first product to support the industry-standard Red Hat Enterprise Linux on Windows Subsystem for Linux, allowing companies to integrate and deploy the most stable, secure, and reliable Linux distribution with Windows 10. WLinux Enterprise unleashes developers and IT staff productivity by giving them access to the Linux command line and development tools they need in today's cloud, hybrid, and cross-platform environments, including Git, OpenSSH, Node.js, Python, Go, Ruby, AWS and Azure cloud command-line tools, and more, directly on Windows 10, alongside existing Windows applications.
WLinux Enterprise accomplishes this in a cost-effective and secure approach by deploying Linux on Windows devices companies already own within Windows networks they already have deployed, reducing the burden of managing a mixed OS environment and eliminating unsecure device usage.
WLinux Enterprise is built on Windows Subsystem for Linux, a stable feature of Windows 10 and Windows 10 Server supported by Microsoft, that is a translation layer that executes Linux programs natively on Windows, no cloud or virtualization required.
WLinux Enterprise is uniquely suited for managing Windows Subsystem for Linux in secure environments, such as FinTech, and is customizable to deploy specific package sets, use internal repositories, and meet strict security and regulatory requirements.
WLinux Enterprise may be deployed to Windows devices through multiple channels, including the Microsoft Store for Business, InTune, DISM, ICD, SCCM and offline sideloading, with or without automatic updates.
WLinux Enterprise requires Windows 10, Windows 10 Server, or Windows 10 LTSC, version 1709 or higher. Deploying Red Hat Enterprise Linux on WLinux Enterprise requires applicable Red Hat Enterprise Linux subscriptions from Red Hat.
WLinux Enterprise pricing starts at $100 USD per seat, 50 seat minimum, and a minimum $1,500 USD annual support contract.  Deployment consulting, employee training, and higher support levels are additional.
Whitewater Foundry first made news in September 2018 when it launched WLinux, the first native Linux distribution for Windows Subsystem for Linux.  Demand for a secure WSL solution for enterprise prompted development of WLinux Enterprise.  Whitewater Foundry has since grown to a worldwide team and maintains the Fedora Remix for WSL, built on WLinux Enterprise.
Whitewater Foundry is a member of the Microsoft Partner Network, a licensee in the Open Innovation Network, and a Red Hat Business Partner.
