Microsoft finally released the first builds of Chromium-based Edge and it is better than expected. Microsoft has managed to perfectly integrate Chromium and it has made Edge even better.

One of the benefits of using the Chromium framework is access to the Chrome Web Store. Google has plenty of themes and extensions on the Chrome Web Store and Edge users can finally take advantage of it. We have already covered how you can install Chrome extensions on Edge. The process of installing extensions is pretty simple but it’s not the case when it comes to installing themes. We have tried to simplify the process for you. You can follow the steps below install themes on Chromium-based Edge.

■ On Microsoft Edge, click on menu>Extensions, enable “Allow extensions from other stores”.

■ Now visit the “Get CRX” extension page and add the extension.

■ Now head to the themes section available for Chrome here.

■ Visit a theme page (note down the theme ID as it will be needed when uninstalling the theme) and right-click on “Add to Chrome” and select “Get CRX of this extension”.

■ Click the “Save” button to download the theme CRX file to the computer

■ Once done, head to the edge://extensions page and drag and drop CRX file.

■ This will prompt Edge to issue a warning- “Extensions, Apps, and Themes can harm your computer.”, click Confirm.

■ Edge will now ask to install the theme. Click “Add theme” to install it.

Voila! This should help you get your favorite theme on Chromium-based Microsoft Edge. If in case you’re not happy, you can head below to follow the steps to uninstall the theme.

■ Open Edge and type edge://version in the address bar.

■ Copy the profile path and close Edge browser. The profile paths for Canary Edge is: “:C:\Users\<username>\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Edge SxS\User Data\Default” and for Dev Edge is: “C:\Users\<username>\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Edge Dev\User Data\Default”.

■ Depending upon on Edge version (dev or canary), paste its path in Explorer Window or Run dialog and press Enter.

■ Now locate the Preferences file and open it with Notepad/Notepad++.

■ In the Preference file search for that theme ID that you saved while installing the theme remove it (keep the quotes). The theme ID should be just after “theme”:{“id”: in the file.

■ Lastly, save changes to the file and restart Microsoft Edge to see the default theme.
