With the release of the Microsoft April 2019 Patch Tuesday updates, some Windows users began to discover that Windows 7 and 8.1 was suddenly booting slower or would freeze. It was determined that this was due to conflicts with antivirus software such as Sophos, Avast, AVG, and now McAfee.
In an update last week to the support articles for the
Windows 8.1 KB4493446 update and the
Windows 7 KB4493472 update, Microsoft has stated that there is an issue with McAfee business antivirus software that is causing Windows to boot slower or freeze.
Windows 10 may also be affected?While only the support articles for the Windows 7 and 8.1 updates state that there is a conflict with McAfee software, the support articles
from McAfee indicates that these issues are affecting Windows 10 as well.
McAfee Problem DescriptionRelated to CSRSS changesAccording to McAfee, these problems are caused by changes in the Windows Client Server Runtime Subsystem service, otherwise known as CRSS.exe, which introduced a deadlock with their software.
"Changes in the Windows April 2019 update for Client Server Runtime Subsystem (CSRSS) introduced a potential deadlock with ENS."
