« on: June 16, 2019, 07:30:06 PM »
Folks over at Google working on new customization options for Chrome browser New Tab Page, they’re planning to replace current customize menu available on new tab with a new one of version 2.0 in upcoming Chrome versions, regarding to that, Chrome 77 in Canary channel now allows to apply different colors to browser interface and set any solid color as new tab page background.

Current customize menu for New tab allows to choose and apply a background image available from selection to Chrome browser, while “NTP customize menu version 2” available for Mac, Linux, Windows and Chrome OS behind a flag in Canary channel, gives more control over the shortcuts appear on new tab and lets you select and set various solid colors as background, you can apply purple, or teal or pretty or bluish color to Chrome interface, this feature requires enabling of two flags.

1. Ensure  you’re using latest Canary channel

2. Visit chrome://flags

2. Search for” customization”, enable the following two flags.

   ○ Chrome colors menu

   ○ NTP customization menu version 2

3. Now relaunch the browser, click on customize icon at the lower right corner of NTP, choose and set a background, you can notice the “Solid Colors” option in the “Background” section.

Visit “Color and theme, select “Purple” or “teal” or “Pretty” or “Bluish” and see how Chrome browser looks with customization options you’ve chosen so far.

Chromium team calling feature as calling Colors Picker. The associated bug provides this description for the flag ”

Chrome Colors picker “should be implemented as part of the new NTP customization menu” and it should be controlled by a flag. It should also provide a way for the user to apply, cancel and save the choice of color”.

Chrome new tab page is going to be customizable like never before, what do you say on these improvements? Let us know your opinions in the comments below.
