How to enable Email Read Receipt in Outlook
« on: August 10, 2019, 08:15:05 PM »
Just as we can set our phones to received Delivered receipt messages for SMS Text message, you can also get Delivery and Read receipts for an email in Microsoft Outlook. Here, a Delivery receipt confirms that the message was successfully received by the recipient on their mailbox; whereas, a Read receipt confirms that the message was opened by the receiver.

However, sending the delivery and read receipts are somewhat of a complicated task. This is because the email client should have the capabilities to do so in the first place. Someone receiving the email using Outlook is in control of whether the client sends a delivery or read receipt. One cannot force the receiver to send delivery or read receipt.

Enable Email Read Receipt in Outlook

Enabling Email Read Receipts in Outlook is not much of a difficult task. There are three different methods for this guide. They are as follows:

   1. Enabling Email Read Receipt for all emails.

   2. Enabling Email Read Receipt for a single email.

   3. Tracking the receipt responses.

1] Enabling Email Read Receipt for all emails

Under the File menu, select Options > Mail.

Under the section of Tracking check the options for these:

   • Delivery receipt confirming the message was delivered to the recipient’s email server

   • Read receipt confirming the recipient viewed the message.

Click on OK to apply the changes.

2] Enabling Email Read Receipt for a single email

Before sending each email, select the Options menu.

In the section for Tracking, check the box for Request a Delivery Receipt or Request a Read Receipt depending on your preferences.

This will enable Email Read Receipt for a single email.

3] Tracking the receipt responses

Go to the Sent items folder and open the message that you have set to track.

In the Message tab, under the Show group, select Tracking.

It is worth noting that, you will not find the Tracking option will not be visible until a few minutes after the receipt is received.
