Microsoft working on an improved battery gauge
« on: October 14, 2019, 04:11:17 PM »

The display of battery life has hardly changed in recent years. You get a percentage of the remaining battery charge and an estimate based on the remaining time remaining. Now, however, we have discovered a patent from Microsoft, which should allow a much more accurate battery indicator.

The patent was published on October 8 and describes a more detailed indication of the remaining battery life of a mobile terminal, such as a smartwatch. The battery consumption of individual tasks is measured. Subsequently, based on a residual maturity of the device is determined. Sounds not very new and exciting. But this remaining time can now be presented to the user in a differentiated way. For example, the remaining time remaining for using a particular app can be displayed.

The patent states as follows:

Quote
A user interface for power management of a mobile communications device is described. In an implementation, power consumption is monitored by a mobile communications device. A user interface is displayed on the network of a network.

A user interface for power management of a mobile communication device will be described. In one implementation, the power consumption used in performing a plurality of tasks is monitored by a mobile communication device. A user interface is displayed on a display of the mobile communication device describing a period of time that may perform each of the plurality of tasks based on the determined amount of power remaining in the battery.

Such an ad would definitely be desirable and would give the user a much more accurate and better information about the remaining term and the possible use of the device.

Such a patent would also suit a surface watch smartwatch. Again and again there are reports and speculations about such a device and my colleague Leo has already dealt with this idea.
