Facebook Users Being Locked Out After Reporting Fake Accounts
« on: October 15, 2019, 02:04:20 AM »
Numerous people are reporting that they have been locked out of Facebook after reporting fake user profiles to the social site. Some users claim that this has been happening for over a week.

According to claims by many users under the Twitter #FacebookLockout hashtag, when people report a fake account to Facebook, about 30 minutes later they find that they have been locked out of their account.

It does not seem to matter what type of account is being reported as they range from reporting deceased family members, celebrity accounts, and politicians.

After being logged out, when they try to log into Facebook again, the site asks them to perform a "Security Check" that asks for an ID. A bug, though, is preventing this verification process from completing, leave the user with no way of getting their accounts unlocked.

Users who have been affected state that they have attempted to contact Facebook numerous times over the past week, but have not heard back.

BleepingComputer has contacted Facebook for more information and will update the story when we hear back.
