As announced, Microsoft has launched Microsoft Edge based on Chromium for Windows 10, Windows 8, Windows 7 and macOS and is available for download. In the coming weeks, Windows Update installs Chromium Edge for everyone. It is a well-known fact that installing Chromium Edge will replace Legacy Edge, but Microsoft documented still there is a way to access old Edge after installing new Edge via Group Policy Editor.

But the said: “Microsoft EdgeUpdate” option is still not available in Group Policy Editor under Administrative Templates as of January 21, 2020, on Windows 10 version 1909 build 18363.592. Hence “the side by side Microsoft Edge experience” may not be possible on Windows 10, but wait! Via a registry hack, you can able to access or run Legacy and Chromium Edge side by side, here is how that can be done.

Registry hack to run Microsoft’s Chromium and Legacy Edge side by side on Windows 10

1. If you’ve already Edge Stable installed, uninstall it. For that, open Control Panel > Programs > Programs and Features, select Microsoft Edge and click Uninstall.

2. Now open registry editor by running “regedit” in Run dialog without quotes

3. Navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft or paste ” Computer\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft” without quotes in the address bar.

Note: You can enable the address bar in the View menu.

4. Right-click on Microsoft key and create a new key named EdgeUpdate

Ensure EdgeUpdate is selected in the left pane, right-click on the right pane and create a new D-Word 32-bit value and name it as “Allowsxs” and give its value as 0.

5. Exit Registry Editor.

Now Install Stable Edge, after its installation is complete, you’ll notice Microsoft Edge Legacy added to Start menu and if you search for Edge, Edge Legacy will also be displayed along with Chromium Edge builds installed on your machine, pin the former to the taskbar and start enjoying both Edge versions.

Note: With the above method, you can notice in screenshot Old and new Edge are running together, but Legacy Edge is also crashing upon its launch sometimes.
