The trade war between the US and China has shattered Huawei’s dream to disrupt the duopoly of Apple and Samsung globally, but it’s doing everything it can to make sure to regain its lost glory. The company made some great smartphones in the past; it also joined Samsung to make its first foldable smartphone last year. But that didn’t play out very well due to a number of reasons — one is, of course, the US sanction and the other one, which is more important, is the fact that potential buyers criticized the company’s first foldable smartphone for being an ‘outie.’

It now seems that the company has learned its lessons from its past mistakes and is working towards correcting it. The company is currently working on a foldable smartphone called Huawei Mate X2, essentially the rightful successor of the last year’s Mate X. While we don’t know much about the Mate X successor, a patent of a Huawei-branded foldable smartphone that folds inwards like the Galaxy Z Fold 2 was spotted last month. This was widely believed to be the Mate X2 that everyone is excited about.

The patent gave us a closer look at what the Mate X2 foldable smartphone could look like. And now, based on the patent, 3D graphic designer Jermaine Smit, aka Concept Creator has created a short video, helping us understand what the smartphone could like more clearly(via Letsgodigital). You can see the video below.

As you can see in the above video, the display of the Mate X2 features a dual selfie camera like the Huawei P40 series, and housing these cameras is a hole-punch design, similar to what we see in the Galaxy Z Fold 2. The rear camera setup is also similar to the P40 series — all the rear cameras are packed in a rectangular camera module.

According to previous rumors, the Mate X2 will have an inward folding screen like the Samsung Galaxy Fold rather than its iconic outward-folding screen. Huawei will be using a flexible panel from Samsung, though without the special Ultra-Thin Glass layer. Rumor also has it that the display of the foldable smartphone will have a screen refresh rate of 120 Hz, which is currently the trend.

Unfortunately, we don’t know when the Mate X2 will hit the market, but if rumors are to believed, the foldable smartphone could see the light of the day around early 2021.
