Twitter confirms that Donald Trump will never tweet again
« on: February 11, 2021, 02:16:40 PM »
Twitter has confirmed that, even if he is re-elected as US president in 2024, Donald Trump will not be allowed to use the platform ever again.

The former president was unceremoniously kicked off Twitter towards the end of his leadership after concerns that his tweets were an incitement to violence. The company hit Trump with permanent suspension back in January and has now made it clear that permanent really does mean permanent.

Trump long skirted the boundaries of acceptability on Twitter, managing to get away with posting content that got others banned much faster. For a period his continued presence of the platform was justified due to him being of "public interest" as president of the US. But ultimately, even this was not enough to protect him from the ban hammer.

Twitter's chief financial officer, Ned Segal, told CNBC: "When you are removed from the platform, you are removed from the platform. Whether you are a commentator, you're a CFO, or you are a former or current public official."

He added:

Quote
Remember our policies are designed to make sure that people are not inciting violence. And if anybody does that we have to remove them from the service. And our policies don't allow people to come back.
Making reference specifically to Trump, Segal said: "He was removed when he was president and there'd be no difference for anybody who's a public official once they've been removed from the service".

Twitter, of course, is not the only social platform to ban Trump in the run-up to his second impeachment. Other sites, including Facebook, also suspended his accounts, but so far Twitter is the only one to confirm the permanency of its ban.
