Though Windows 10 is one of the most popular operating systems globally, that does not make it free from flaws. Every Windows OS user has suffered from different issues once or multiple times.

The problems can be anything like compatibility, hardware-related, and more. One such common trouble is Mouse Cursor Disappearance.

In this post, we would discuss the causes of why does mouse cursor disappears on Windows 10 and also the top fixes for it.

What causes the Mouse Cursor to disappear on Windows 10?

There is no particular reason that might cause the mouse pointer to disappear. However, generally, that happens due to one of the following reasons:

   • When users upgrade Windows 7 to Windows 10

   • Updating Windows 10 to the latest feature update could also make the mouse cursor
      disappear.

   • Updating the drivers to the newest version can also cause the pointer to disappear because the
latest driver might not be compatible with the mouse or laptop’s trackpad.

   • The USB port of your device might be damaged.

   • The system’s mouse settings might be changed because of the newest update, thus causing
      the pointer to hide.

   • If the mouse is external, it might be broken, causing the pointer to disappear.

How to fix the Mouse Cursor disappears on Windows 10?

Since there is no particular cause for the mouse pointer to disappear, there is no specific solution too.

However, there are a number of fixes that could be applied to solve the issue. Here is the list of all the possible solutions:

Check the USB port

The most common reasons for the pointer’s disappearance are the damaged USB port or the mouse itself. The USB ports, especially on the older devices, might get corrupted with time and become unresponsive.

Similarly, if you use the wired external mouse on your device, it is possible that its wire might get damaged with time. Verify that the mouse you are using is in good condition by plugging it on other devices.

If the USB ports and mouse are working perfectly, but the pointer disappearance problem persists, try other fixes.

Use Function Keys to Enable the Mouse Cursor

Some laptop manufacturers provide the option to disable/enable the mouse pointer using the function keys. You might have accidentally pressed that function key while working. To re-enable the mouse pointer, press the appropriate function key, and you are done.

However, we cannot directly specify which function key would enable the cursor on your device since every manufacturer uses a unique key for that purpose. For example, if you use the laptop manufactured by ASUS, you can press the fn+f9 key combination to get back your lost mouse pointer. You can easily figure out which function key performs a similar purpose on your laptop.

Re-Enable the Mouse from Settings

If the mouse pointer is frequently hiding, it might be because it is disabled from the windows settings. You can try re-enabling it from the settings. Since the mouse is not functional, you have to use the keyboard to access the settings for re-enabling the mouse.

Here are the steps for that:

   1. On your keyboard, press Windows+S keys together. It would take you to the windows
       search box.

   2. In the search box, type mouse settings chose the first option, and press the enter key.

   3. On the Mouse settings window, press the Tab key until you reach the additional
       mouse options
. Press the enter key.

   4. Under the Mouse Properties window, press the tab and press the right-arrow key to reach the
       Device Settings.

   5. Now again, press the Tab key, and on reaching the Enable option, press the enter.

The above steps would re-enable the disabled mouse, and you should see the mouse pointer now.

Update Mouse Driver

An outdated mouse driver is also one of the common reasons for the mouse cursor disappearance. Your physical mouse might be incompatible with the old drivers and hence not functioning correctly.

For updating the mouse drivers, follow these steps:

   1. Press Windows+S to open the windows search bar and type Device Manager.

   2. Navigate to its icon and press the enter key to launch Device Manager.

   3. On the Device Manager window, press the Tab key and use the down arrow key to reach
       Mice and other pointing devices.

4.Press the right arrow key to open it up and use the down arrow key to reach out to your
      device.

   5. Now press Shift+F10 to open the context menu of the device and select Update Driver.

   6. Follow the on-screen instructions to update the mouse drivers.

If you find manual updating tedious, you can always go for a good third-party driver updater software that are designed to handle all your driver updates.

Roll-Back the Mouse Drivers

It might be possible that updating the mouse drivers might cause the mouse cursor to disappear because the new drivers are not compatible with your mouse. So, rolling back the drivers might solve the problem.

Here are the steps for that:

   1. Follow the steps 1-4 from the last fix

   2. Press Shift+F10 to open the context menu and select Properties.

   3. Press Tab until your reach the General tab, then press the right arrow key.

   4. Under the Driver tab, reach to Roll Back Driver by pressing the tab. Hit the
enter key to start rolling back the drivers.

   5. Choose why you are rolling back and select Yes.

A disappeared mouse cursor might be really frustrating, especially while you are working. However, most of the time, restarting the system might fix the problem. If not, you can try any of the fixes listed in this post to correct the problem.
